Palace Of Versailles Facts

No place in the world can prepare a tourist for Versailles. It is one of the most opulent, incredibly beautiful places on the planet. I would hate to even wonder how much the palace is insured for by the government. It is probably the most famous day trip out of Paris because everyone wants to see how the famous Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette lived before they lost their crowns and their heads. Revolutionaries used the utterly skyrocketing expenses of this palace as a rallying cry for the revolution. Poor people starved while the monarch lived in unspeakable wealth. Today we are so fortunate that the Palace of Versailles France was not destroyed. Going to Versailles can be a little daunting because of it huge size. Armed with Palace of Versailles facts your trip will be more enjoyable and stress free.

Getting to Versailles has never been easier. There are more tourist agencies who take tourists to Versailles than ever in history. Today tourists want to visit landmarks without having to worry about how to get there and how to get home. Many agencies pick you up at your hotel and take you back to the same place unless otherwise agreed upon. These trips are not cheap but if convenience is your concern, this is a great option.

Taking a train trip to Versailles is much cheaper but you have to make all of the arrangements yourself and make sure to get back to the train in time for the return trip. This isn't rocket science, but ask your hotel personnel for help if you have any concerns. Going on the train rather than taking a tour allows you to be independent and free to go wherever you want and to stay as long as you like. You could even spend the night if you want. If you are a nervous traveler, this might not be the best way to go.

When you arrive at the Palace of Versailles, prepared to be overwhelmed. The palace is actually a chateau. While it is not the largest or perfection personified, it is the epitome of what a royal palace should be. This palace was built over centuries. Louis XIII started the palace as a hunting lodge. Obviously, the original purpose became lost along the way. Louis XV finished the palace and made it extremely famous. The palace is the place where he and his queen were abducted and taken to prison.

The palace is much too large to see in one day. Choose what you truly want to see and create a loose schedule. Palace of Versailles facts are pretty easy to come by. Use any travel book or Internet source to decide what you cannot resist and a few places that you will see if you have time. Everyone wants to see the Queen's Apartments, the King's Apartments, and the very famous Hall of Mirrors.

If you are interested in formal gardens the Palace of Versailles will be a wonderland of fun for you. These gardens are perfectly manicured and always brilliantly displayed. There are also many gorgeous fountains. Even if you aren't particularly interested in gardens, a visit to these formal grounds is an absolute must.

A trip to the Palace of Versailles can be the highlight of your trip to Paris or it can be a nightmare if you go late in the day during peak season when it is so crowded. Try to go in the off season and do your best to get there early before the throngs of other tourists arrive.
